EESPA grows globally and becomes GENA

EESPA has realized the inevitable.
The organization is by all means based in the EU, but it is clear that this international association - which is open to e-invoice operators - has outgrown its European costume.
EESPA writes in a press release that it will undergo a rebranding and be renamed GENA (Global Exchange Network Association).

EESPA (European E-invoicing Service Providers Association) is a cross-border association of e-invoicing service providers. InExchange is part of an ever-expanding membership. At last week's congress in Valencia, Spain, the organization welcomed its 100th member.
Growth is also the reason why EESPA is rebranding.
"European" is no longer enough as a geographical measure.
The e-invoicing map is bigger than that and this will now be confirmed with a name change. A so-called internationalization project has been initiated for some time and it in turn received its approval during the said congress.

GENA instead of EESPA

The change is explained in detail in a press release from the organization:
"The organization has updated its vision to create a trusted ecosystem for the seamless exchange and automated processing of digital invoices and commercial data globally. The ambition is to represent the operator community at global level and expand beyond the EU. The engagement of national or regional operator groups will be achieved through so-called "chapters" within the organization or alliances with local associations.
The governance structure of the organization will be redefined. Changes to the Organization's statutes and internal rules will provide flexibility for future changes. Finally, the organization will undergo a rebranding from EESPA to GENA (Global Exchange Network Association)."

More news from the conference

Another key item at the Valencia meeting was the EESPA-Peppol Joint Incubation Charter, which was adopted unanimously. The charter specifically outlines the initial details of the 18-month development project that is crucial to obtaining continuity in EESPA and Peppol's analytical work.
"The goal of this program is to join forces and work towards a common framework, based on multi-stakeholder governance, to ensure an open, resilient and secure network," EESPA writes in the press release.
Noteworthy:
- The organization's Interconnection Working Group will focus on the above-mentioned incubation project, with PoC in France selected as a kind of pilot case. Several members of the Invoice Finance Working Group (IWG) are also involved in the development of the newly created DBNAlliance in the US.
- In terms of policy and rule making, there will be a continued focus on how different CTC schemes are evolving and being influenced by key consultations with EU membership, such as France, Romania, Spain, Poland and Germany. EESPA provided detailed feedback to the Commission on the VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) proposal. If adopted by all Member States, it will bring relatively important changes as of 2024.
